Sheriff and Richland Mall Partner on new home for Crossfit Gym
Thursday, May 3, 2012

RICHLAND COUNTY, SC - In November 2011, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced “Richland 1 Crossfit” as the newest addition to the Department’s efforts of health and wellness for the Deputies who serve our communities. The Sheriff made the announcement after 15 years as your Sheriff and of committing to the citizens of Richland County that he would have the most professional law enforcement agency.

This spring the Sheriff partnered with Richland Mall to create a new home for the Deputies “Richland 1 Crossfit” Gym. Sheriff Leon Lott states that the partnership with Richland Mall places the facility in a centrally located space that allows Deputies, from around the County, to be trained and supported in the Departments efforts to provide a healthy and safe working environment for our personnel. The Mall’s generosity and partnership will go a long way toward helping to improve our Department and ultimately our communities.

The Sheriff’s vision and passion for professional law enforcement starts with the health and wellness of your Deputies. With this vision and commitment he requires yearly physical examinations, supplies health screenings and support staff for diet and health; while also maintaining the highest standards for physical fitness readiness testing anywhere.

Sheriff Leon Lott constantly searches for innovative ways to protect our communities and one example of this was bringing “Crossfit” trainers to our staff to train our personnel. This new program has helped the Deputies lose weight, increase their endurance and strength and also to win State and National competitions.

Sheriff Leon Lott states that “Richland 1 Crossfit” has proven to be a successful holistic fitness program that is saving the lives of our Deputies while it is allowing us to perform our mission of “Building Unity in the Community”. The Sheriff added that it is his goal to make sure all the employees at the Sheriff’s Department have the tools, resources and support necessary to return home from work every day; that the “Richland 1 Crossfit” program is one more comprehensive way to reach those goals.

Mr. Joe Walker, General Manager Richland Mall, adds “We are happy to have the Richland County Sheriff’s Department Crossfit Training Facility coming to Richland Mall. Each day we’ll see many of our County’s finest, and fittest around the mall, it will be an inspiration for us all,”.

CrossFit is used by law enforcement, the military and professional athletes around the world to obtain comprehensive holistic results and conditioning. The Crossfit program delivers specific training that is scalable and applicable to specific job performance. The Crossfit training is useful for people of all ages.
