Autopsy on woman's body scheduled for today
Monday, May 14, 2012

AIKEN, SC - An autopsy has been scheduled today for the body of a woman that was found in some woods Saturday afternoon.

According to Capt. Troy Elwell with the Aiken County Sheriff's Office, officials hope to have an autopsy report later today, which will assist in the identification and cause of death of the deceased.

On Saturday, officials received a call by Wendell Baughman, who said he found the decomposed remains in the woods off the same street as his residence on Double Springs Road.

Baughman's wife Melody, 56, was reported missing April 23 by her son Kyle Posey of Lawton, Okla., when he was unable to reach her. Aerial and ground searches were conducted, but she wasn't located.

Investigators said at the time that she had not taken her medication, money, credit cards or purse after leaving her residence following an argument with her husband.

Baughman also reported his .22 caliber gun missing. He told deputies he planned to wait 72 hours before reporting his wife missing.
