Suspect in double murder captured in Louisiana
Thursday, April 5, 2012

ORANGEBURG, SC (WIS) - A double murder suspect wanted in Orangeburg managed to make it to Louisiana to hide out for almost three weeks before being busted by local police and the US Marshals office.

Vicente Mendoza, 27, was taken into custody in a trailer near Ville Platte, Louisiana on Wednesday, according to the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office.

Law enforcement officials in Louisiana worked with Orangeburg deputies until a credible lead surfaced.

Mendoza stands accused of murdering of 21-year-old Hope Bowers and 37-year-old Latonia Profit. Both were found dead inside of an abandoned mobile home on Collinwood Road back on March 18.

Deputies say Mendoza lived on Snake Swamp Road -- just around the corner from the crime scene. They believe some time following the murders, Mendoza took Profit's SUV and drove to Louisiana. Detectives found that vehicle about an hour west of Baton Rouge.

The extradition process to bring Mendoza back to face charges in South Carolina is in progress.
