LEXNINGTON COUNTY, SC - Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies on Wednesday, April 4 arrested a 34-year-old Chapin man on charges that the man, on three separate occasions, stole a total of about 64 gallons of gasoline from a storage tank that was located outside the maintenance shed at the Timberlake Country Club on Timberlake Drive near Chapin.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said deputies arrested Robert Sigmund Key, Jr., 34, of 219 Fairway Ridge Drive, Chapin, on arrest warrants on three counts of breaking into a tank in which fuel is stored. Key was being held on Thursday, April 5 at the Lexington County Detention Center on bail totaling $15,000.

An arrest warrant alleges that at about 9:36 p.m. on March 11, Key broke the lock off the pump that is used to pump gasoline from the storage tank at the Timberlake Country Club at 222 Timberlake Drive and pumped out about 19 gallons of gasoline worth about $66, Metts said. An arrest warrant further alleges that Key also stole gasoline at about 11:51 p.m. on March 19, pumping out about 22 gallons of gasoline worth about $77 from the storage tank. In addition, an arrest warrant alleges that at about 1:40 a.m. on March 29 Key stole gasoline, pumping out about 23 gallons of gasoline worth about $80 from the storage tank.
