Deputies arrest 5 in "numerous" metal and copper thefts
Monday, April 23, 2012

Five individuals have been arrested for a variety of charges related to numerous copper and metal thefts of industrial buildings that have been occurring for the past several months in Fairfield County. Some of the thefts dated as far back as two years.

Sheriff Herman Young said during the early morning hours of April 16th, FCSO deputies were patrolling an area near some of these industrial buildings and encountered a vehicle that they deemed suspicious in nature. As they progressed their investigation, they arrested two individuals, Seymour David Clarke and Terrence L. Francis, for traffic offenses. Later that same day, an employee of one of these industrial buildings discovered that their place of business had been unlawfully entered and items had been taken from it. Evidence linked Clarke and Francis to this incident.

Investigators continued the investigation and have been able to arrest two more individuals, Christopher Moore and Brodrick Carolina. These four individuals have been linked to three other incidents that have occurred at two separate locations.

FCSO believes that these four individuals are part of an organization which is responsible for committing similar crimes at other locations in Fairfield County, as well as outside of Fairfield County. Additionally, this organization is believed to have cost these businesses hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damage in addition to the value of the items stolen, deputies said.

Investigators have several more persons of interest that they plan to interview and fully expect to make more arrests in the near future. Sheriff Young plans to work closely with surrounding law enforcement agencies to determine if these individuals are responsible for any crimes in those areas.
