Community Comes Together To Help Abused 4 Year Old
Monday, April 30, 2012

Camden, SC (WLTX) - Hundreds of people came together to support a 4 year old Kershaw County Girl who was abused.

"When I first heard the story basically it was like the whole community was angry," said Anthony Anderson.

It's been a week since two adults were arrested and charged with abusing the girl to the point where a leg and two of her arms were broken.

"My heart broke for this little girl, I have a 4 year old and 8 year old and I could not imagine what that little girl was thinking or going through while she was being abused," said Melissa Ogle.

Anthony Anderson and his sister Melissa Ogle wanted to turn their anger into something positive by raising money for the little girl, who we're calling Lizzy.

"We dont need to be angry at them, Lizzy needs our help so this is what we came up with," said Anderson.

They had a car wash in downtown Camden and created a fund with the United Way of Kershaw County, so Lizzy can have money for things like clothes when she's placed in a new home.

"We all question how could anyone do such a horrible act of violence? But those are questions we may never get answers to so all I can do and all we can do as a community is pray and raise money for her and raise money for child abuse awareness," said Ogle.

More than 100 people stopped by not so much for a clean car but to show Lizzy that they care.

"It brings joy to my heart to know that all this money, every penny is going to Lizzy, so that when she is put in a new home, she can have the support that she needs."

For these volunteers spending all day in the heat is worth it as they prove that a community can unite behind one little girl in need.

"I just know that Lizzy is smiling right now even though she doesn't know that we are doing this but just to know that she is getting the support she needs brings happiness to my heart.. thats all that mater," said Ogle.

Sunday they raised over $1,700 to go towards the fund.
