Suspect Stabs Man in Stomach, Police Say
Monday, March 5, 2012

West Columbia, SC (WLTX) - West Columbia police have arrested a suspect they say stabbed a man in the stomach during a violent sequence of events over the weekend.

Tommy Dwayne Cook, 35, is facing charges of attempted murder.

Early Saturday morning, police say Cook got in a verbal fight with a woman who resides with him at a location in Columbia's Vista. Officers say the fight escalated, and Cook punched her in the eye.

Police say the woman left the residence with a friend; however, Cook followed in another car. Eventually, they all wound up at a home in West Columbia where the woman's 20-year-old son was located.

Officers say the son wouldn't let Cook come inside, but Cook broke a window and entered the home. According to investigators, Cook then stabbed the son in the abdomen.

The son was taken to Palmetto Health Richland for treatment.

After setting up a perimeter in the area to search for Cook, West Columbia Police were able to capture him in some nearby woods.
