Man charged in Crosland Park drug bust
Wednesday, March 28, 2012

AIKEN, SC - Acting on a tip that a vacant house on Sommer Avenue in Crosland Park was being used to make drug deals, Aiken Public Safety officers arrested a 29-year-old Aiken man and recovered cocaine valued at several hundred dollars.

James J. Thomas, of Morgan Street, is charged with trespassing, failure to comply, trafficking cocaine, possession with intent to distribute cocaine and possession with intent to distribute cocaine within a half-mile of a school.

In addition to the drugs, investigators said they also recovered drug paraphernalia used in the sale of drugs at the home Monday afternoon.

After receiving the tip that drugs were being sold at 1192 Sommers Ave., investigators called the homeowner, who said the house was vacant and that no one should be there.

When officers arrived at the residence, they reported seeing a group of people bolt from the back door.

The officers chased after the suspects who fled and ordered them to stop running.

Police said they detained three other men and a woman on trespassing and/or failure to comply charges.

Police said none of the suspects arrested had ever lived at the property.
