Man beaten, robbed walking to car from Five Points
Monday, March 19, 2012

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - A Midlands man says he was beaten and robbed at gunpoint after celebrating St. Patrick's Day at a Five Points bar early Sunday morning.

"I'm not mad about it. I'm more concerned about it not happening again," said Marty White.

White said he had just left the Pub and was walking toward his car near Emily Douglas Park when he spotted two men getting out of a car nearby.

"They turned and immediately put a gun turned sideways in my face," said White. "The other one had a knife. The one with the knife hit me on the side of my face."

White says the thieves took his phone, debit card and ID, then ran off.

He rushed to a friend's home nearby for help.

"They came to the door" said White. "I laid on the floor. They called 911 and I went to Palmetto Health Baptist hospital."

White was not able to give the Columbia Police a clear description of the robbers so investigators need some help.

Officers are investigating to see if White's attack is related to a report of shots fired in Five Points Saturday night.

"These are college kids that are always down there," said White. "I'm 40 and I got jumped by two people I never expected that. These guys look like they were young."

"I'd like to know who they are" said White. "I'd like to get them get the what they're due. This is a serious crime."
