Thursday, March 29, 2012

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC - In three weeks, Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies in partnership with the Churchill at St. Andrews Apartments Neighborhood Watch Group will conduct a Children’s Day between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 21 at the Churchill at St. Andrews Apartments at 82 Fox Run Lane near Irmo.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said Crime Prevention Unit Sgt. Tony Ayers will coordinate the participation of the Sheriff’s Department in the event. Citizens who have questions about the Children’s Day event can contact Ayers at (803) 513-4958.

Ayers will teach children how to maintain their personal safety, Metts said. Sheriff’s Department Explorers Post cadets will prepare fingerprint identification cards for children who are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Law enforcement officers can use fingerprint identification cards to quickly identify children in the event that children are reported missing or harmed by another person.

Deputies with the Sheriff’s Department Bike Patrol will teach children how to safely ride bicycles, Metts said. Deputies with the Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit will demonstrate how they use K-9 police dogs to locate children who have been reported missing.

Children’s Day reflects the Sheriff’s Department mission of providing professional law enforcement services that enhance the quality of life for all people in Lexington County, Metts said.

If you, or someone you know, have any information regarding any crime, you are encouraged to contact Crimestoppers. You could earn a reward up to $1,000.
