Woman found shot dead in her backyard

AIKEN, SC (WIS) - A 54-year-old woman's body was discovered in the backyard of her Horry Street home in Aiken Monday night.

According to the Aiken County Coroner's office, Kayla Raiford was found dead around 8:00 p.m. by a family member.

The coroner's office says Raiford died from a gunshot wound to her body and the weapon was discovered near her body.

Neighbors reportedly heard what sounded like fireworks near Raiford's home around 6:30 p.m.

The Aiken Department of Public Safety and the coroner's office are currently investigating the shooting.
