Eau Claire High subject to another bomb scare; no delay in school start
Tuesday, January 3, 2012

RICHLAND COUNTY, SC - Eau Claire High students and faculty welcomed the new year with another bomb threat, but the incident had significant differences from previous threats and the school was not closed, nor even delayed.Someone called in the threat before 8 a.m., unlike previous cases in October and November where suspicious packages were left on the school steps, Richland District 1 spokeswoman Karen York said.Columbia police were notified, but school staff swept the campus and found no evidence of a bomb. Classes are in session as scheduled, York said.

The school was closed Nov. 21 because of a suspicious object found by custodial staff. The South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division took over that investigation.A similar incident shut down the school on Halloween Day.The school also was among six in the district that delayed its start Dec. 16 because of a manhunt for a robbery suspect that led to the death of a sheriff’s dog named Fargo.
