Dogs stolen from no-kill shelter
Thursday, January 5, 2012

BAMBERG, SC (WIS) - Dogs are disappearing from a Bamberg County no-kill shelter and representatives believe they are being stolen to be used for fighting.

In the past month, four dogs have been taken from the Mary Ann Morris Animal Society in Bamberg. The most recent incident happened Sunday night when a dog was taken from an outside run.

Two of the stolen dogs are pit bulls and one is a pit bull mix and a board member believes they are going to be used for fighting.

"All are sweet dogs who do not deserve the life that they are likely to have if we do not get them back," said board member Ruthie Morris.

The shelter plans to raise money to install security cameras and an alarm system. "We are also raising money to offer a reward for the return of the dogs," said Rish, "and/or information leading to the return of the dogs and leading to the arrest of whoever stole them."

"These dogs had found safety," continued Rish, "and now they are doomed to a horrible life if we cannot get them back."

If you would like to donate to the shelter, the address is PO Box 1151, Bamberg, SC 29003.
