Deputies launch manhunt for murder suspect
Thursday, January 26, 2012

HOPKINS, SC (WIS) - Richland County deputies are still searching for a man they say shot and killed a person in Hopkins on Tuesday.

Authorities launched a massive manhunt around Horrell Hill Rd. in Hopkins on Wednesday in hopes of finding 20-year-old Jabriel Singleton. He is wanted on murder and attempted murder charges.

According to the Richland County Coroner's Office, 23-year-old Dashawn Jones was shot and killed on Prileau Road around 2:15 p.m. Coroner Gary Watts says Jones died from several gunshots to his torso. The condition and name of the second victim is has not been released.

A reverse 911 call has gone out to citizens in the area to alert them of the search.

Agents from the State Law Enforcement Division and sheriff's deputies took to the air and ground searching homes and scouring woods looking for any sign of Singleton.

They used SLED's helicopter with an infrared camera and K-9 teams to follow up on any leads.

Neighbors in the area have been very tight-lipped about what they saw or heard, but one man says everyone knows each other in the neighborhood and he's shocked to hear that someone was killed.

If you have any information about Singleton's whereabouts, you are asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
