$800,000 in cocaine, cash seized; 6 arrested
Monday, January 9, 2012

ORANGEBURG, SC - A six-month investigation led to the seizure of cocaine valued at $500,000, weapons, cars and $300,000 in cash, according to Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell.

"Sheriff's Office investigators in conjunction with state and federal authorities arrested six people in Orangeburg and Vance on Thursday night," Ravenell said in a statement Saturday.

"As a result of these arrests, we have seized seven kilograms of cocaine with a street value of $500,000, nine vehicles with a value of approximately $100,000, $300,000 in cash and a variety of weapons and ammunition.

"These individuals were not amateurs. They possessed weapons, body armor and a machine to compress cocaine. The weapons seized included 3 SKS rifles, an AK-47, an AR-15, a TEC-9, a high-powered rifle with scope and six pistols of varying calibers," he said.

Officials also discovered ammunition capable of penetrating deputies' bulletproof vests, he said. The vehicles allegedly had secret compartments filled with cash.

Those arrested:

• Genaro Vazquez-Torres, 26, of 2929 Five Chop Road, was charged with trafficking cocaine.

• Jessie Collier, 59, of 149 Surfside Drive, Holly Hill, was charged with trafficking cocaine.

• Mauricio Hernendez Martinez, 34, of 727 Mills Court, Orangeburg, was charged with trafficking cocaine.

• Byron Latrel Canty, 23, of 581 Resort St., Santee, was charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine and possession of a firearm.

• Kembe Alajuwon Jamison, 19, of 332 Millcreek Road, Vance, was charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine and possession of a firearm.

• Issac Franklin, 17, of 468 Railroad Ave., Holly Hill, was charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine and possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine.

"I want to thank the Narcotics and Special Operations Investigators as well as the other agencies involved in this case," Ravenell said. "This is the largest narcotics seizure since I took office last year.

"If there was any doubt about our resolve to break up the flow of narcotics in our neighborhoods, this case should set the record straight. We are coming after your drugs, cars, homes, guns and cash if you are trafficking or dealing in Orangeburg County."
