Thieves cause major damage in Denmark
Wednesday, December 7, 2011

DENMARK, SC - The Bamberg County Sheriff's Office and Crimestoppers are asking for the public's help locating the suspects who stole cable from the SCE&G property in Denmark last month.

The total loss, including damage to the facility, is estimated at $50,000.

Authorities say that between Nov. 11 and Nov. 14, someone gained entry by cutting a hole in a fence surrounding the Carolina Highway facility.

Investigators believe spools of cable wire, ground leads and other cables were removed from several trucks before being pulled up an embankment leading into the woods.

The cable was then dragged down an embankment leading across a railroad track and through a wooded area on the other side.

At that point, investigators located pieces of wire near a path that led to a trail through the woods.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to call 1-888-CRIME-SC or text "TIPSC" plus their message to CRIMES (274637).

Your tip could earn you a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of those responsible. Tips can be made anonymously.
