SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT AND NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH GROUP DONATE 1,000 POUNDS OF FOOD
Monday, December 12, 2011

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC - Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies and members of the Sharpe’s Hill Community Crime Watch on Saturday, December 10 donated 1,000 pounds of non-perishable food items to The God’s People in Service (GPS) Ministry Center at 4512-A Fish Hatchery Road near Gaston. GPS will distribute the food that was donated to persons in the Gaston, Pelion and Swansea communities who are in need of assistance.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said Gaston Resident Deputy Shannon Lovell coordinated the participation of the Sheriff’s Department in the food drive in the South Region Patrol District, which is based in Pelion.

Resident deputies and Sharpe’s Hill Community Crime Watch members put boxes at grocery stores and other businesses in the Gaston, Pelion and Swansea communities for citizens to donate non-perishable food items for the food drive, Metts said. Southern Baptist churches in the Gaston, Pelion and Swansea communities sponsor GPS Ministry Center.

The food drive reflects the Sheriff’s Department mission of providing professional law enforcement services that enhance the quality of life for all people in Lexington County, Metts said.
