Police: Man arrested after woman found murdered in Columbia home

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - A woman was found dead in her Columbia home Monday afternoon and investigators believe domestic violence may have led to her murder.

44-year-old Michael Kenneth Peterson is accused of killing 54-year-old Brenda Witherspoon, according to officials.

The Columbia Police Department say Witherspoon was found around 12:00 p.m. by a family member in her home on English Avenue near Two Notch Road.

According to police, Peterson was arrested after being seen walking in the Covenant/Two Notch Road area around 4:00 p.m.

Police say the incident has been ruled a homicide and they are continuing to investigate.
