Police: 55 bags of heroin discovered in home, man arrested

SUMTER, SC - Sumter Police arrested a man they say had over 50 bags of heroin inside his home.

Police say 31-year-old Alphonso Mack was arrested and charged with heroin trafficking, possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and disorderly conduct on December 12.

According to an incident report, police were patrolling the area of Highland Ave. and Miller Road in reference to several burglaries, when they noticed a man standing in the roadway impeding the flow of traffic.

Officers say they also observed another man, later identified as Alphonso Mack, standing near the roadway.

When officers approached, the man in the roadway, Alphonso ran into his apartment.

Officers followed him into residence.

Once inside, officers observed a clear plastic container containing nine small bags of cocaine in plain view.

After conducting a search of the apartment, officers discover 55 bags of heroin, 44 bags of marijuana and 20 bags of cocaine.

Alphonso Mack was arrested and transported to the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center.
