Cavanagh choosen to recieve prestigious award
Monday, December 19, 2011

RICHLAND COUNTY, SC - Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott held the annual Christmas banquet on Saturday, December 17, 2011. During the event many awards were handed out and one in particular stood out and deserved to be recognized and honored.

Two weeks ago, the Sheriff's Foundation board members met to choose the recipient of this award and before Sheriff Leon Lott announced the winner of the Deputy of the Year Award he stated, "God works in mysterious ways". The award went to Master Deputy Warren Cavanagh .

It was an emotional moment when Cavanagh walked up to receive his award, the room broke out into a thunderous applause and all rose to their feet to honor a Deputy who has indeed worked hard and unselfishly for the citizens of Richland County. It was self evident to see the pain that Cavanagh was dealing with as he approached but, you could also feel the strength he was receiving from his entire Richland County Sheriff's Department family. This indeed was a special night, a night to be shared with the citizens who all share our pain but also know that joy comes in the morning.

Master Deputy Cavanagh came to Richland County Sheriff’s Department in 2006 from the office of Inspector General with the State of South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice. He has been in Law Enforcement since 2002 and began handling K-9's in 2004.
