Suspect sought in Jade of China robbery
Tuesday, November 29, 2011

AIKEN, SC - Aiken Public Safety investigators said the owner of a Southside restaurant was ambushed in the parking lot behind his business late Saturday and robbed.

The Jade of China owner left the Pine Log Road restaurant about 10:30 p.m. and attempted to get into his vehicle when he said he was approached from behind by an unidentified person.

He said the suspect pushed him into his vehicle and began to punch him.

The victim, a 59-year-old man, said he grabbed a mallet that was in his car and began to fight back. He said he struck the assailant in the back of the head.

The two continued to tussle with one another, officials said.

During the confrontation, the suspect took the man's wallet from his pocket and money from the man.

The suspect was wearing a black stocking-style cap.

He said the man ran toward a nearby grocery store and disappeared from his sight.

Police found a black cap and are asking the public to come forward if they recognize the hat.

The logo on the hat is that of a C5-B military transport aircraft.
