Local Probation, Parole and Pardons officer named state’s agent of year
Monday, November 28, 2011

COLUMBIA, SC - Orangeburg County Agent Patrice Simmons has been named agent of the year for the S.C. Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services.

The award was presented in a ceremony in Columbia. Simmons also was recognized by the Alston Wilkes Society with the Mark Hart Award.

Simmons has been a Probations, Parole and Pardon Services agent for more than six years. She was recognized for her commitment to helping offenders learn skills such as reading, understanding and filling out employment applications, job searches and understanding the requirements of a job.

The Smoaks native is a 2004 graduate of Claflin University, where she majored in sociology with a minor in criminology. She is a 2010 graduate of Webster University, with a master's degree in mental health counseling. Her parents are Nolan and Brenda Simmons.

"On numerous occasions, offenders have returned to the office to thank her for the time and effort in assisting them with their needs," PPP Deputy Director Scott Norton said at the Alston Wilkes award presentation.

He noted that Simmons is "committed to her office and her co-workers" and had volunteered for an additional case-load of offenders and pre-parole and pardon investigations. Her "dedication and compassion for those we serve are tremendous," Norton said.

"Agent Simmons truly represents the best of these qualities for our department," he added.
