Suspect Charged with Arson (2 counts)
Tuesday, October 18, 2011

Lancaster, SC – On 10/14/2011 the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office arrested and charged Chad Kent Todd with two counts of arson for willfully and maliciously setting fire to two (2) abandoned houses in the Kershaw area.

The incident began on 10/14/2011 when Todd was arrested at his home for intentionally placing lumber that had nails and screws in it across Hwy 601 in Kershaw. Deputies were called to the scene when a motorist found the items in the roadway. Todd was identified as a suspect and charged with “Putting foreign substances on a highway with malice”.

During the course of this investigation Todd was identified as a suspect in two suspicious fires that occurred several weeks before in the same area. Todd was subsequently charged with two counts of Arson 3rd Degree for his involvement in the fires that occurred at abandoned homes on 09/30/2011 (4800 Block of Gold Mine Hwy, Kershaw) and 10/11/2011 (4776 Gold Mine Hwy, Kershaw).

Todd is currently being held at the Lancaster County Detention Center on a $75,000 surety bond.

Sheriff Faile said, “We are fortunate that no one was hurt during these incidents. Our officers did a good job putting this investigation together and getting Todd off the street before he caused any more property damage or got anyone hurt. Job well done.”
