Deputies: Man Tried to Sell Marijuana Outside Parent's House
Monday, October 17, 2011

Orangeburg, SC (WLTX) -- Officers arrested a man they say was found selling a pound of marijuana outside his parent's house on Wingfield Street on Thursday.

Authorities with the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office arrested Marquis Saquan Robinson and charged him with possession of narcotic drugs in Schedule I and Schedule II (first offense); manufacture or possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance near a school, unlawful carrying of a pistol, and receiving stolen goods with a value of $2,000 or less.

Investigators say they found Robinson on Wingfield Road and then "conducted a controlled purchase" of a "plant-like substance that appeared to be marijuana." Officers say they determined the substance was marijuana, and that Robinson had kept the drugs in a book bag in a 1976 Caprice Classic. Deputies say they found a stolen weapon and a fast food cup that held more of the drug inside the bag.

"Robinson is no stranger to narcotic activity in Orangeburg County," said Sheriff Leroy Ravenell, applauding the work of investigators' efforts to "lock up the men and women who sell and benefit from narcotic activity."

Authorities then conducted a search in the home and found weapons, one of which was stolen, bullets, a stolen TV, and more plant-like substances in a plastic bag. Investigators say Robinson had tried to sell the drugs at the home, which is located about a half-mile from Whitaker Elementary School. It's not clear which of Robinson's parents, or if they each, owned the home.

Officers also arrested a second man, 21-year-old Ronshad Jamal Kennerly of Robert Street in Orangeburg, and charged him with simple possession of marijuana.

Each suspect is scheduled to attend a bond hearing at 2:30 p.m.
