Update- 4 Suspects charged in shooting death in Kershaw

Lancaster, SC – At approximately 3:00PM deputies were dispatched to the area of E. Church St. and N. Ingram St. in reference to shots fired in the area. Upon arrival at the scene deputies located Harry E. Blakeney (W/M DOB: 07-09-1942 Address: 416 E. Church St., Kershaw) deceased in the roadway. Blakeney appeared to have been shot to death.

A second shooting victim, Douglas Lewis (B/M DOB: 05/23/1980 Address: 149 East First St., Kershaw) was located several streets over after he drove from the scene. This victim was flown by helicopter to Richland Memorial.

The Sheriff’s Office began a detailed investigation and crime scene investigators began processing the scene. The investigation thus far has revealed the four suspects conspired to commit an armed robbery and the victim Blakeney was the target of that robbery. The suspects Jerel Davis and Heyward Truesdale went to Blakeney’s residence and committed the robbery. During the robbery shots were fired and Blakeney was killed. The other victim, Douglas Lewis is believed to be a bystander that was standing near Blakeney when the shots were fired. Davis and Truesdale fled the scene on foot with a quantity of money that was stolen from Blakeney. Davis and Truesdale then got into a vehicle with Prayon Truesdale and Shaun McCrorey. A witness provided a description of the vehicle and responding deputies stopped the vehicle and detained the suspects.

The Sheriff’s Office has arrested and charged the following individuals:

Shaun McCrorey (B/M DOB: 06-11-1992 Address: 3022 D Northwest Apts. Lancaster, SC)- Accessory before the fact of Armed Robbery, Conspiracy to commit Armed Robbery, Unlawful carrying of a pistol.

Jerel Davis (B/M DOB: 8-26-1990 Address: 717 E Dunlap St. Lancaster, SC)- Armed Robbery, Murder, Attempted Murder, Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Violent Crime.

Prayon Truesdale (B/F DOB: 1-23-1976 Address 3106 Carolina Ct Lancaster, SC)- Conspiracy to commit Armed Robbery, Accessory after the fact of a felony (Murder/Armed Robbery).

Heyward Truesdale (B/M DOB: 6-23-1985 Address: Previously 219 Artimis Place, Kershaw, SC Currently -Unknown Winston Salem, NC)- Armed Robbery, Murder, Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Violent Crime.

All four suspect remain incarcerated at the Lancaster County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.

Additional Charges:

The suspect Shaun McCrorey has also been charged in connection with the Attempted Armed Robbery and Attempted Murder that occurred July 27, 2011 at a church on Bradburn Dr. in Lancaster, SC. On this date the two victims were approached by McCrorey who was demanding money. During the attempted robbery, McCrorey began shooting. One of the victims identified as Mario Fernandez (Age 39) of 614 Normandy Rd., Lancaster, SC was shot twice by the suspect. Fernandez was conscious and alert. The other victim was not injured during the incident. McCrorey was identified as a suspect in this incident yesterday during the investigation of the murder in Kershaw. McCrorey has been charged with Attempted Armed Robbery, Attempted Murder, and Possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

The suspect Shaun McCrorey was also charged with Pointing and Presenting a firearm after an incident where he had an altercation with another man on September 14,2011. This incident occurred at 1002 Carolina Ln. in Lancaster. McCrorey was identified as a suspect on September 19, 2011 and a warrant was issued for his arrest on that day.

Sheriff Faile said, “I want to thank everyone who came together to solve this case. We had citizens providing information and our officers worked relentlessly to put this information together and get these violent offenders off of the street.”
