Sketch released of man who flashed children at bus stop
Monday, September 26, 2011

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Police think a man is exposing himself to kids waiting for the bus in the Greenview community. They think they know what he looks like, but don't know who he is.

"I think it's awful," said Sheralet Taylor.

Taylor and her four-year-old daughter Asia live two blocks away from where children say a man showed them his private parts. Columbia police say the children are all girls, the youngest 10 years old.

"Next door is also my two little sisters ages 11 and 13," said Taylor. "I can't understand why someone would want to do that."

Police say it started on Gavelin Avenue. The girls were waiting for the school bus Thursday morning, when they say a man standing near a home on Ronald Lane unzipped his pants and flashed them. Days later, the kids say he did the same thing.

"Very upsetting to me because my daughter likes to come outside and play, and now I'm afraid to let her go outside and play without me being present," said Taylor.

Investigators have a sketch, but they don't know who he is. Because of that, people who live nearby say they're not taking chances. "I'm going to be right here on this porch watching," said Willa Williams. "Hopefully he'll slip up and they'll catch him."

The police chief by phone says he's going to add extra patrols in the Greenview community. If you recognize the man in the sketch, call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
