Lancaster, SC – On 09-21-2011 the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office responded to and are investigating two separate shootings that occurred in the Kershaw area of Lancaster County.

The first shooting occurred at 5267 Pleasant Plains Rd. just outside the town of Kershaw and was reported at approximately 1130 am. Upon the arrival of deputies, Darick Mcgriff (B/M DOB: 03/31/1989) was found at 3707 Fork Hill Rd. with an apparent gunshot wound to the leg. Other Deputies responded to 5267 Pleasant Plains Rd. which is located approximately 100 yards from the residence on Fork Hill Rd. They were met by the victim, David Cunningham and a witness.

After a detailed investigation it was determined that Darick and Joel McGriff approached the victim at 5267 Pleasant Plains Rd. and went around to the side of the house with him. Darick McGriff then demanded that the victim give him the property in his pockets. Darick McGriff took a quantity of cash from the victim and demanded additional property. Both Darick McGriff and Joel McGriff were arrested and charged with Armed Robbery. Darick McGriff was also charged with Possession of a Weapon during the Commission of a Violent Crime.

The victim was uninjured during the incident and both McGriff brothers remain incarcerated awaiting a bond hearing.

The second shooting occurred near the intersection of N. Ingram St. and E. Church St. inside the town limits of Kershaw. At approximately 3:00PM deputies were dispatched to the area in reference to shots fired in the area. Upon arrival at the scene deputies located Harry E. Blakeney (W/M DOB: 07-09-1942 Address: 416 E. Church St., Kershaw) deceased in the roadway. Blakeney appeared to have been shot to death.

A second shooting victim was located several streets over after he drove from the scene. This victim was flown by helicopter to Richland Memorial.

The Sheriff’s Office began a detailed investigation and crime scene investigators began processing the scene.
