Police: Man shot over parking space
Friday, September 23, 2011

ORANGEBURG, SC - A man claims he was shot in the leg after an argument over a parking space.

According to an incident report, on September 20 around 9:15 p.m., an Orangeburg police officer was patrolling the area near the Edgewood Apartment Complex on Folly Road when he heard a loud pop and saw a flash from a gun near the playground. The officer then reported seeing somebody fire three to four more gunshots.

As the gun shots continued, the officer said he saw two people run past the playground towards the Hampton Chase Apartments and another run across the street between two buildings toward the Dogwood Apartments.

The officer eventually came across two men, a woman and a baby. One of the men had been shot in the upper right thigh and he had a swollen eye.

The woman said the incident started when she returned home from running errands. She said that as she was trying to park, a green Chevy Tahoe started backing out of a spot and she blew her horn. As the woman left the car with two men and baby, somebody got out of the Tahoe and asked her if there was a problem, according to the report.

The men said no and asked one of the men in the Tahoe if he had a problem. He said "no" and left the area, but the dispute wasn't over.

Ten minutes later, there was a knock at the woman's door. One of the men opened the front door to find that the man from the Tahoe had returned with two others, according to the report.

The men from the house left the home and walked toward the playground with the three people who had just showed up. According to the report, they said the three visitors all pulled guns. One man was hit in the head with a gun and shot in the leg.

Orangeburg Department of Public Safety Captain Mike Adams said investigators are following up on numerous leads in the case, but no arrests have been made.
