Lexington District Two Community Coalition to Award Youth Initiative Incentives

West Columbia, S.C. – Chief Dennis Tyndall announced that the Lexington District II, SC-Rise Above It Coalition will award 9 mini-initiatives of $1,000 to youth groups that propose the best plan of action in addressing youth substance use. The purpose of the Youth Initiative Incentives is to engage students in leadership roles in prevention projects that have a drug free message.

Groups must function within Lexington District II and be composed of middle and/or high school students. Each group will be required to have an adult advisor 21 years of age, who will be awarded a $500 stipend. Advisors will be subject to background checks, required to attend a mandatory training, and be present at all group meetings.

Applicants will be asked to categorize their project, which can be community education, social policy and advocacy, arts and media, recreational, and alternative activities (other). Multiple categorizes can be selected to define the project.

Applications are currently being accepted until Friday, September 23, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. Awards will be announced Wednesday, October 5, 2011.
