Lake Murray Elementary third grade teacher challenges Richland County Sheriff to a duel
Wednesday, September 28, 2011

RICHLAND COUNTY, SC - A primary focus of both School District 5 of Lexington-Richland Counties and the Richland County Sheriff’s Department is promoting healthier and active lifestyles of our children, communities and our personnel. In keeping with the efforts to encourage physical fitness and improved health, 3rd Grade Teacher Ms. Martie Talbert, and Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott will square off in a “Jump Off” competition and duel.

On Friday September 30, 2011 Ms. Talbert and the Sheriff will meet in the bus loop of Lake Murray Elementary School (1531 Three Dog Road, Chapin) at 1:15 PM. In front of the entire third grade of Lake Murray Elementary, cheerleaders and citizens, the Sheriff and Ms. Talbert will use jump ropes to settle their duel and crown the winner of the “Jump Off”.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott states that education comes before success in the dictionary and life – being physically active and having healthy lifestyles will only contribute to the success of our children and communities. The Sheriff added that he is extremely excited to participate in the “Jump Off” and continuing to lead the charge in the Midlands toward better living.

"Who knew that when I decided to jump rope with the children one Friday at recess that it would turn into a healthy competition with Sheriff Lott!" said Ms. Martie Talbert. "I know it will be a lot of fun and the children will always remember the day their third grade teacher had a jump rope contest with the Sheriff of Richland County!"

As the excitement builds for the students and community over this event – the trash talking on social sites continues between the supporters for the Sheriff and Ms. Talbert.

On Wednesday September 28, 2011 at 11:30 AM (in the Sheriff’s Office) the media is invited to witness a demonstration of The Sheriff’s jump rope talents as he practices for his heated competition with Ms. Talbert.
