AMBER Alert: Deputies say man fabricated carjacking, kidnapping
Wednesday, September 28, 2011

ANDERSON, SC (WYFF) - Anderson County deputies arrested a man they say lied to investigators about the kidnapping of a woman and her child, which triggered an AMBER Alert Tuesday night.

John Lankford Minor Jr., 44, was charged with filing a false police report. He was being held in the Anderson County Detention Center.

Late Tuesday night, deputies said Lisha Nicole Minor, 24, and her son, Samuel Zachery Smith, 3, were taken in a carjacking at the Sunset Grill on Highway 29 North about 8 p.m.

An AMBER Alert was issued about three hours later, along with a description of the man believed to have taken the mother and child. Deputies said the man's first name was Jim.

The AMBER Alert was canceled about 2:15 a.m. Wednesday. That's when deputies said the woman and her son were located in Georgia. They were both safe, and the woman had consented to be with the man, deputies said. Neither of them face charges, according to deputies.

There was no immediate confirmation on the relationship of the woman and John Minor.
