Woman Sought on Charges in West Columbia

WEST COLUMBIA, SC – The West Columbia Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a wanted individual. According to Chief Dennis Tyndall, investigators have obtained multiple warrants for Lydia Nichole Smith. Smith is a white female, age 22, of 176 Aiken Street, Gaston.

Chief Tyndall stated that Smith worked as a caretaker for a woman in West Columbia for the past year. The victim is a 63 year old wheelchair-bound woman.

Investigators have determined that during the months of May and June of this year, Smith stole the victim’s credit card and made over $1200 in unauthorized purchases. Additionally, Smith stole checks from the victim and cashed them for over $2200.

Lydia Smith is wanted on warrants for forgery, financial transaction card theft, financial transaction card fraud, and violation of the adult protection act.

Police are asking that anyone with additional information concerning this case or the whereabouts of Lydia Smith contact the West Columbia Police Department at 803-794-0721.
