Midlands police department closing
Friday, August 5, 2011

NORWAY, SC - Due to financial problems, the Norway Police Department will be closing.

According to Mayor Cindy Williams, after months of consideration, the small town will be closing their police department, effective immediately.

“The reasons were strictly financial,” said Williams. “It’s unfortunate, but we had no other choice. We can no longer afford to financially support the police department.”

According to Williams, this will leave two officers without a job.

The Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Department and the Springfield Police Department have both offered to provide coverage of Norway, says Williams.
