Have You Seen These Suspected Purse Snatchers?
Monday, August 29, 2011

Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- Two men are accused of taking a woman's purse at a dollar store on Farrow Road, and officers need your help finding them.

Investigators with the Columbia Police Department are searching for the two men seen in the surveillance images. Police say the first suspect, a man with dreadlocks in his early 20s, walked up to a female victim at the Family Dollar on Aug. 21 shortly before 12:30 p.m.

Officers say the man with dreadlocks can be seen on surveillance video approaching the woman as she left the store. When she stopped to talk with someone, the suspect took her purse, and a customer of the dollar store ran after the suspect.

A second suspect, seen in the surveillance images, is also sought by police.

Police say the woman was not hurt during the crime.

If you can help investigators find the men, you are urged to call CrimeStoppers of the Midlands at 1-888-CRIME-SC or text a tip to "CRIMES" beginning with the term "TIPSC."

In an effort to help reduce crime, Chief Randy Scott released the following tips:

--> Hold your purse close to you. If possible, conceal it with a jacket or your clothes.

--> Don't carry more money or credit cards in your purse than you need.

--> If possible, try to leave your purse at home. Only carry your essential items with you such as a credit card, money or cell phonein your pockets.

--> Be aware of your surroundings.
