LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC - Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts promoted two seasoned supervisors to serve as watch commanders on rotating, 12-hour night shifts. The watch commander is responsible for supervising all night-time operations for the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.

Metts promoted Jeffrey John Palkowski, 43, of Lexington, and Olyn Ray Sexton, Jr., 37, of Lexington, to the rank of lieutenant and assigned them to serve as watch commanders effective in August. Palkowski and Sexton will work on different 12-hour, rotating night shifts.

Metts hired Palkowski, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, on October 30, 1995. Palkowski previously held the rank of sergeant and supervised a team of detectives in the Major Crimes Unit.

Metts hired Sexton, who is a former member of the Sheriff’s Department Explorers Post, on May 6, 1996. Sexton previously held the rank of sergeant and supervised a road patrol shift in the South Region Patrol District, which is based in Pelion.

“Jeff and Olyn have shown that they can hold subordinates accountable while inspiring fellow officers to fulfill our agency’s mission of providing professional law enforcement services that enhance the quality of life for all people in Lexington County,” Metts said. “Jeff and Olyn will bring tremendous energy and experience to their new positions as watch commanders.”
