One suspect arrested in hit-and-run; 2nd suspect sought
Tuesday, July 19, 2011

CAYCE, SC - The Cayce Police Department said the victim of Saturday’s fatal hit-and-run was struck by two vehicles as he walked along Airport Road.

Police charged Lance Carl Burt, 43, with felony DUI involving death and leaving the scene of the accident, according to an incident report provided by the Cayce Department of Public Safety. Investigators are searching for a second vehicle that witnesses said also struck 47-year-old Brunson Wallace Hendrix, who died at the scene.

Hendrix had been dropped off at a local bar about 10:15 p.m., the police report said. He was struck by the vehicles about 11:05 p.m.

Witnesses told police a white Chevrolet pickup truck struck Hendrix and drove off. One witness followed the truck, which was driven by Burt, to a bar a mile up the road, who then called police with the whereabouts of the driver, according to the incident report.

Witnesses said that the second vehicle struck Hendrix and then drove to a Mobile gas station near the bar and waited a few minutes. That vehicle left as officers began arriving, the police report said. Police are still searching for that car.
