Deputies: Wanted man tried to kill himself in sheriff's dept. parking lot
Friday, July 8, 2011

RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WIS) - Deputies say a man on the run for shooting his wife in the hand turned himself in Thursday morning, but not before trying to kill himself in the sheriff's department parking lot.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said 38-year-old Jerome White showed up at the sheriff's department Thursday morning with his attorney. When they arrived, Lott said White attempted to kill himself by drawing a weapon in the parking lot and firing two shots, but both shots misfired. White was subdued by deputies and arrested without further incident.

White was wanted for shooting his wife in the hand at a home on Keystone Dr. in Hopkins on July 5. Investigators said witnesses observed the two parties in an altercation that became physical. White's wife was taken to the hospital for treatment.

White is charged with attempted murder, kidnapping, and two counts of pointing and presenting. He was transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center and is awaiting a bond hearing.
