Deputies: Walmart employee mugged inside store restroom
Wednesday, July 20, 2011

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Walmart employees are quietly warning customers to be careful when shopping and especially when using the restroom after a store employee was mugged with a screwdriver Monday afternoon.

According to the Richland County Sheriff's Department, the employee was washing his hands in the restroom inside the Walmart on Two Notch Road around 4:40 p.m. when a man grabbed him around the neck from behind and pulled him into a bathroom stall.

The victim reported being struck in the side of the head, and said the man tried to stab him before the victim could grab his arm.

Once inside the stall, the armed suspect took the victim's cell phone and $1.00 before fleeing the store in a silver or white two-door vehicle, according to the incident report.

Investigators did not release a description of the suspect, but the incident report stated the man used a screwdriver in the attack. The victim received lacerations to his upper body.

An email shared with WIS states that employees at the Walmart are informing customers of the crime and warning them to be extra vigilant when shopping or using the restroom.
