CITIZEN’S TIP LEADS TO NARCOTICS ARREST: SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS WORTH OF COCAINE SEIZED FROM SAFE
Friday, July 15, 2011

COLUMBIA, SC - Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott announces that the Department’s Drug Suppression Team (DST) has seized approximately 65 grams of cocaine with an approximate street value of $7,500 from a residence in the Martin Luther King Park Community. Most of the drugs were found inside a safe that was bolted to a shelf inside of a closet at the residence. Officers obtained a search warrant to seize and open the safe.

As a result, 26-year-old Erica Renee Morgan (DOB: 10-8-1984) has been charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine and Possession with Intent to Distribute within Proximity of a Park. Morgan was transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

DST Officers also obtained an arrest warrant for Antronio Smith in connection with this investigation. Smith was not inside the residence at the time of Morgan’s arrest.

Aside from narcotics uncovered in the safe, officers seized approximately 10 grams of cocaine, a pistol, shotgun, knife, and surveillance equipment from the residence. Officers also found three children ranging in age from 4 to 10-years-old inside the home. Those children are now in the custody of a relative.

Chief Scott says, “I am so proud that citizens continue to call law enforcement when they know about crime happening in their neighborhoods. Law enforcement collaborating with citizens can make all the difference when it comes to safe communities. In instances like this, all it takes is that one call or piece of information to help us make arrests.”

Chief Scott encourages citizens with information about Antronio Smith’s whereabouts to call the Columbia Police Department at (803) 545-3500 or call, text or submit online, their anonymous tip to Crimestoppers.

If you, or someone you know, have any information regarding any crime, you are encouraged to contact Crimestoppers. You could earn a reward up to $1,000.
