Attempted Armed Robbery and Shooting

Lancaster, SC – On 07/27/2011, at approximately 1045 am, a Lancaster resident was injured in an attempted armed robbery and shooting incident on Bradburn Dr, Lancaster, SC. Preliminary information obtained revealed that the two victims were approached by an armed suspect who was demanding money. During the attempted robbery, the suspect began shooting. One of the victims identified as Mario Fernandez (Age 39) of 614 Normandy Rd., Lancaster, SC was shot twice by the suspect. Fernandez was conscious and alert. The other victim was not injured during the incident.

The suspect was described as a young black male approximately 6’02’’ with a thin build. The suspect was reported to be wearing a black shirt, black shorts, and a black hat. The suspect used a red bandana to cover his face. It is believed that the suspect used a bicycle to travel to and from the scene.

Lancaster County Emergency Medical Services were called to the scene and transported Fernandez to Springs Memorial Hospital where he was treated and then transported to CMC in Charlotte, N.C. Fernandez’s condition was unknown at the time of this release.

Criminal Investigators, the K-9 tracking team, and the Crime Scene Unit from the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene and began a detailed investigation. Additional releases will be dispatched when information is available.
