AERIAL RESCUE TRAINING
Saturday, July 2, 2011

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC - Members of the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department Dive Team, Lake Murray Marine Patrol and Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) as well as tactical flight officers and Lexington County Emergency Medical Services marine paramedics will conduct rescue training at about 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29 on Lake Murray using the Sheriff’s Department helicopter.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said officers will conduct training in which they will use short-haul rescue equipment that SCE&G bought for the Sheriff’s Department. The equipment will enable deputies to use the agency’s helicopter to rescue persons who need assistance in the Saluda River, other waterways or isolated, flooded areas in Lexington County.

Deputies will use the short-haul rescue equipment to strap injured persons into a basket that can be lifted to the helicopter from a waterway so that the injured persons can be transported by helicopter to obtain medical treatment, Metts said.

Training exercises with the short-haul rescue equipment will begin at about 1 p.m. on a peninsula on Lake Murray that is at the end of Campground Road off Shore Road near Gilbert, Metts said. Members of the news media who wish to attend the training exercises will be able to record the training from law enforcement patrol boats that will be deployed on Lake Murray.

If you, or someone you know, have any information regarding any crime, you are encouraged to contact Crimestoppers. You could earn a reward up to $1,000.
