Suspected rapist sought in Lexington County
Wednesday, June 15, 2011

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC - Lexington County deputies are searching for a 50-year-old man who is accused of the rape Saturday of a 55-year-old woman he had met online days before, authorities said.

Roger Dennis Lee, of Stump Road near the town of Lexington, is charged with first-degree sexual assault, kidnapping and aggravated battery, the Sheriff’s Department said Tuesday. Mr. Lee is 5-foot-7 and 155 pounds.

If Lee is convicted of rape or kidnapping, he could be sentenced to as much as 30 years for each offense, Maj. George Brothers said. The other charge carries a penalty of up to 20 years.

A man and woman who had met through an online dating service agreed to their first face-to-face meeting at the woman’s home near West Columbia, Brothers said.

The man tied her hands and feet and punched her during the attack, Brothers said. The assailant left after threatening to return if she called police.

The woman was treated for cuts and bruises by ambulance personnel and went to Lexington Medical Center for a sexual assault examination, Brothers said.

Anyone who has information on Lee’s whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (888) 274-6372.
