Strong-arm Robbery at Columbia Grocery Store
Wednesday, June 8, 2011

COLUMBIA, SC - Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott hopes the public will recognize a vehicle that was used during a strong-arm robbery in downtown Columbia recently.

According to investigators, a 63-year-old female victim was exiting the Bi-Lo grocery store located at 4467 Devine Street at approximately 8:30 AM on May 28, 2011, when the suspect drove up beside her, and grabbed her purse and grocery bag.

In the process, the victim struggled to hold on to her items, and lost her balance as the suspect drove off, heading west on Devine Street. The suspect’s vehicle was later seen in the Rosewood Drive area. The victim was not physically injured during the crime.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 25-35 years old, wearing a red shirt. The vehicle used in the crime is described as an early 1990’s model, white pick-up truck, possibly a Ford Ranger with a large rust spot on the passenger side roof, peeling paint on the hood, and a lift gate on the back of the vehicle.
