sex offender, hans meckelvaney enters guilty plea and is sentenced to ninety-eight (98) years in prison
Tuesday, June 21, 2011

COLUMBIA, SC- Hans Frederick Meckelvaney pleaded guilty to two (2) counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct with a minor in the first degree and two counts of Kidnapping. The Honorable James Barber sentenced forty-seven (47) year old Meckelvaney to ninety-eight (98) years in the South Carolina Department of Corrections.

The victims are the 12 and 15 year old daughters of Meckelvaney’s ex-girlfriend. The defendant planned his sexual assault of the girls more than a week in advance after asking their mother’s permission to spend the day with them with purported plans to take them shopping and to a movie. After the victims’ mother left for work, he tied up the girls and sexually assaulted them over the next few hours. During the sexual assault when one of the victim’s did not comply with the defendant’s demands, he hit her in the head knocking her unconscious. Meckelvaney then drove the victims to North Carolina where he planned to commit suicide. Unable to follow through on his plan, he drove the girls back home. He was immediately arrested by the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. Investigator John Carwell obtained a written confession from Meckelvaney which detailed the planning and commission of the sexual assault.

According to 5th Circuit Solicitor Dan Johnson, Meckelvaney was a registered sex offender as a result of being convicted in 2006 in Charleston, South Carolina for “various sex-crimes.” He was released on probation in late 2007 after serving a three (3) year prison term. Meckelvaney has remained behind bars since he assaulted these two young victims in September 2010. Johnson states, “the premeditated and calculated planning in the commission of the heinous sexual assault of these children warrants each and every day Meckelvaney will serve in prison for his crime. Justice was served today.
