Police: Gunman steals store's deposit
Monday, June 20, 2011

AIKEN, SC - An Aiken woman closing up a Southside business for the evening was held at gunpoint and robbed Wednesday as she was getting into her vehicle with the day's bank deposits, officials said.

Aiken Public Safety officers are looking for the gunman but said they have little information about the suspect, only what the victim and a witness could describe from the confrontation.

Around 9:40 p.m. on Wednesday, a black male around 5-foot 3-inches to 5-foot 6-inches tall, wearing a black bandana over his face and black clothing, approached the victim as she was getting into her vehicle, officials said.

The man ordered her to hand over everything she had. She handed him the deposit from the Dollar Tree on South Aiken Lane, and he ran away with the undisclosed amount of money.

The victim described the weapon as a silver handgun. A witness who also worked at the Dollar Tree corroborated the victim's recollection of the holdup, adding that the gunman ran toward Gold's Gym.

Aiken Public Safety searched the area for the suspect, but he was never located.

Anyone with information is asked to call Aiken Public Safety at 642-7620, or to contact CrimeStoppers of the Midlands by calling (888) CRIME-SC, visiting www.midlandscrimestoppers.com or texting "TIPSC" plus the message to CRIMES.
