LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC - The fifth annual Jailbreak 5K Run & Walk raised about $9,500 for the Lexington County Sheriff’s Foundation, which is a nonprofit group that pays for equipment, training and other items that the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department has difficulty acquiring through the normal governmental budget process.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said 482 runners and walkers were officially timed in the Jailbreak 5K Run & Walk. Runners and walkers from 16 counties in South Carolina as well as runners and walkers from the states of Colorado, Georgia, Ohio, North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia participated in the event, which was held on May 28 at the Lexington County James R. Metts Law Enforcement Complex at 521 Gibson Road in Lexington.

“The Jailbreak 5K is a major annual fund raiser for the Sheriff’s Foundation, and the men and women of the Sheriff’s Department are very grateful to the runners and walkers who participated as well as businesses who provided financial support for the event,” Metts said.

Through special events and private contributions, the Sheriff’s Foundation raises money to buy equipment, materials, training and supplies for the Sheriff’s Department that can be difficult to acquire through the normal governmental budget process, Metts said. The Lexington County Sheriff’s Foundation is a 501(c) 3 organization.
