Good Samaritan helps catch accused burglars red-handed
Friday, June 10, 2011

COLUMBIA, SC - An alert neighbor helped the Columbia Police Department and the Richland County Sheriff's Department arrest two men accused of breaking into a home in the Rosewood community and stealing electronics.

24-year-old Darren Archie is charged with First Degree Burglary and Grand Larceny and 37-year-old Terrell Ontwan Moseley is charged with Second Degree Burglary and Grand Larceny after being arrested Wednesday.

The suspects are accused of breaking into a home on the 4000 block of Hickory Street near Deerwood Road around 2:00 p.m. A concerned citizen saw two individuals breaking into a home and called police.

The good Samaritan gave police a description of the two suspects and their vehicle. As a result,Archie and Moseley were spotted near the Washington Park community and were pulled over by deputies on Aster Street. During the traffic stop, officers found electronic equipment in the backseat of the vehicle including a flat screen television and a laptop.

Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott commends the citizen's quick action by calling the police and assisting with this case. "This is positive community involvement," said Scott. "We always encourage citizens to help law enforcement by letting us know when crime happens, especially in their own backyards. Crime reduction is a collaborative effort. We are all working to improve the quality of life for residents in the city."

Chief Scott extends his gratitude to Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott and his deputies for assisting CPD with this investigation.
