One killed outside Richland Co. daycare
Tuesday, May 24, 2011

RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WIS) - One person is dead after a double shooting outside a home daycare in northeast Richland County Tuesday morning.

A spokesperson with the Richland County Sheriff's Department says an 18-year-old man showed up at Shirley Tucker's Day Care at 1612 Summit Ridge Drive around 9:45 a.m. to confront a 21-year-old woman who was working there.

Captain Chris Cowan said multiple shots were fired during a dispute near the front porch of the home. "We don't know the relationship between the male and the female," said Cowan.

"There were children inside the home at the time," said Cowan. "None of the children were hurt." The kids ranged from infants to 5-year-olds, according to Cowan. "We had one deputy that was inside playing with the kids while we were processing the scene."

Cowan says the man died at Palmetto Richland Hospital. The woman was taken to Providence Northeast Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of those involved.
