One dead, one injured in apartment shooting
Tuesday, May 17, 2011

SUMTER COUNTY, SC (WIS) - Sumter County sheriff's deputies are investigating a shooting that left one person dead and another injured Monday evening.

Sheriff Anthony Dennis said the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. Monday at the South Forge Apartments off Highway 261 near the town of Wedgefield.

Denis said two men were sitting in a parked car at the apartment complex when they were shot by an unknown suspect in another vehicle. That vehicle left scene before deputies arrived.

One of the victims died at the scene, according to Dennis, and the other was transported to the hospital.

Right now there is no description of the suspect or the vehicle, but deputies are still interviewing witnesses.

The sheriff says they believe the shooting may have been drug related. Deputies recovered marijuana at the scene.
