Man gives students pills to resell at middle school, sheriff says

LAKE WYLIE, SC (WBTV) - A Lake Wylie man is behind bars after deputies say he gave a teenager prescription pills to resell at a middle school in York County.

According to a release from the Sheriff's Office, the school resource officer was notified that three students at Oakridge Middle School were acting abnormally and were "sleepy and unsteady on their feet."

An investigation by the resource officer found that a 14-year-old student had been given Klonopin pills to re-sell to classmates.

The student told the resource officer that they were given the pills by 38-year-old Christopher Marc Veurink, of Autumn Leaf Lane, who is an acquaintance to the student, the report states.

According to deputies, at least four middle school students were sold the Klonopin; two of those pills were recovered from the students. Parents of three of the students involved did seek medical attention for their children as a precautionary measure.

During the investigation it was discovered that the student who had distributed the narcotics had also stolen money from a teacher. That money was recovered by deputies and has been returned to the teacher.

The student was taken into custody and will be petitioned in Family Court with Distribution of Controlled Substance, Conspiracy to Distribute Klonopin and Petty Larceny.
